Andrew Hofmeister, born February 1913, grew up near Ingomar, Montana. After earning a B.A. at the University of Montana in 1938, he taught in Malta, Miles City, and Great Falls. Leaving Montana, he received a Masters of Fine Arts degree at Washington State University in 1946 and subsequently joined the faculty.
